Field Hockey Picked to Finish Fourth in Big East. Birch, Huffman Selected Preseason All-Conference

NEW YORK – Old Dominion University field hockey was picked to finish in fourth place in the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Rebecca Birch and Erin Huffman were selected preseason All Big-East.

Birch led ODU with 10 goals and 23 points last season and earned first-team All Big-East honors, while also earning second-team All-Region accolades.

Huffman was second on the squad with nine goals and 22 points, also earning first-team All Big-East honors and was named first-team All-Region.

UConn was picked to win the league receiving seven first place votes, while Liberty was picked second and had one first place vote. Providence garnered 34 points just one ahead of Old Dominion and was picked third, while Villanova, Temple Quinnipiac and Georgetown rounded out the poll.

ODU opens the season on Friday, Aug. 30 at home against Virginia at 5 p.m.
