NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team took down VMI by a 3-0 score in the first spring game of the 2019 season at the ODU Soccer Complex.

In the 39th minute, ODU’s Blair Vilov earned a foul on the left wing. The ensuing free kick was sent into the box by Allie Brimmer. The ball was rebounded out to the top of the box where Emily Garrick placed a left footed shot in the top corner of the VMI net, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the 50th minute, a seven-pass sequence that began with ODU’s Gaby Bentley on the left wing near midfield led to a Kyra Ricks cross from the end line on the right wing, which found Bentley once more on the far post for a header in the back of the net. Reagan Tate and Ricks were credited with the assist to Bentley’s goal, which gave Old Dominion a 2-0 advantage.

In the 54th minute, a nine-pass sequence found ODU’s Vilov holding up the ball in the VMI box, where she squared the pass to Bentley who, in turn, laid it off for Brimmer. Brimmer then took a touch to set herself and rifled the ball in the top corner, beyond the outstretched hand of the diving VMI keeper. Vilov and Bentley were credited with assists for Brimmer’s goal, ultimately sealing the deal on ODU’s 3-0 victory over VMI in the first game of the 2019 spring season.
