BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Old Dominion fell to No. 13 Virginia Tech, 38-0, on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium, marking the second consecutive week that ODU has lost to a Power-5 opponent. The Monarchs fell to North Carolina in Norfolk last week.

Old Dominion (2-2) was outgained by Virginia Tech (4-0), 582-149, as the Monarchs managed just seven first downs.

The Virginia Tech lead was 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, as the Monarch defense held the Hokies to just three points on their first two redzone opportunities. However, a pair of Steven Peoples touchdowns in the second quarter provided Virginia Tech with a three-score lead of 17-0 at the half.

The Hokies then outscored ODU, 21-0, in the second half to secure the shutout victory, marking just the second time in program history that ODU has been held scoreless. The Monarchs were also shut out by Appalachian State during the 2015 season.

ODU freshman quarterback Steven Williams Jr., at 17 years of age, became the second-youngest starting quarterback in FBS history. Williams threw for 85 yards on 8-of-26 passing, including an interception, and ran for 24 yards on the ground.

Isaiah Harper, coming off of a breakout performance against UNC, led the Monarchs in yards from scrimmage with 32 receiving yards on four catches.

Defensively, Sean Carter had five tackles and an interception, the first forced turnover by ODU since week one, and Denzell Williams recorded a team-leading 11 tackles.
