Monarchs Begin Season at Hokie Open

ROANOKE, Va. – The Old Dominion wrestling team will travel to Roanoke, Va. to compete in the Hokie Open, formerly known as the Southeast Open on Sunday, Nov. 5. The event hosted by Virginia Tech will be held at the Berglund Special Events Center in Roanoke, Va. The field will consist of wrestlers that are unattached to a team as well as team scoring wrestlers.

Old Dominion will have two attached wrestlers, Terrell Forbes and Tanner Stephens. The remaining Monarchs will wrestle unattached.

There is a freshman/sophomore division and an open division. The Monarchs will be competing in both divisions and there will be 10 mats at the event.

Last year, junior Seldon Wright went 4-1, good for second place at the tournament. Will Hilliard was also a runner-up. NCAA qualifier, Alex Madrigal earned a fifth place finish last year.

Other teams competing at the event will be: Ohio University, Chattanooga, Duke University, Virginia Tech, NC State, Army West Point, UNC, and more.

Up Next
The Monarchs open up their first annual Monarch Classic with dual meets against Northwestern and Gardner-Webb at the Jim Jarrett Gymnasium. The Monarchs wrestle Northwestern at 1PM and Gardner-Webb at 2:30PM.
