NORFOLK, Va. -- Danielle Grega tallied a hat trick and the Old Dominion field hockey team defeated Big East foe Georgetown, 6-2, on Friday evening at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Rebecca Birch, Alexa Ostoich and Julia Van Dorsten also netted goals for Old Dominion (4-4, 1-1 Big East), while Cameran Nery-Strickland recorded two assists. The six-goal performance marks the most goals by an ODU team since 2015, when the Monarchs also scored six against the Hoyas.

"It's a good conference win for us," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "Obviously, after last week dropping our conference opener, it was important for us to get a win. It was a great start and we took opportunities early."

The Monarchs surged out to the early lead behind a three-goal barrage in the first 15 minutes of play.

Ostoich opened the scoring in the fourth minute, putting home a pass from Mia Fucci for her fifth goal of the season. Grega's first goal, off of an assist from Birch, pushed the lead to two in the 11th minute, before Birch's penalty-corner goal in the 15th minute extended the ODU advantage to three.

Georgetown (5-4, 0-2 Big East) cut into the ODU lead with a 27th-minute goal, but Grega quickly answered, netting her second goal of the game in the 29th minute.

"We were really focusing today on a good start and then continuing it throughout the game," said Grega. "Obviously, that really showed in the score."

In the second half, Van Dorsten added to the lead with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute. Grega then completed her hat trick with a penalty-corner score in the 52nd minute.

Overall, ODU outshot Georgetown, 12-10. Kealsie Robles earned the win in net with four saves.

"There are some things we need to work on," said Griffiths. "But, overall, a good win."

Up next, the Monarchs travel to No. 2 Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m.
