NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (3-2) overcame a 1-0 and 2-1 deficit to hand Princeton (2-1) its first loss of the season by a 4-3 score on Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Monarchs clinched the victory with a 4-2 score.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team today,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “After having a tough weekend and falling behind by losing the doubles point, they showed amazing character. Princeton has an amazingly talented team and we kept pushing and got rewarded for it. I’m so happy for Nicola and Oliver to serve out critical matches, which they couldn’t do last weekend. That’s process we keep preaching and today the result shows we are on the right track.”

After dropping the doubles point, Aziz Kijametovic (6-4, 7-6), Francois Musitelli (6-1, 6-4) and Nicola Vidal (6-4, 6-3) all won their singles matches in straight sets. It was ODU’s Oliver Tobisch (6-3, 0-6, 6-4), who sealed the deal for the Monarchs on Friday afternoon in Norfolk.

Old Dominion will remain at home for its next match this Sunday, Feb. 3, when the Tennis Monarchs welcome ETSU to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center for an 11:00 a.m. ET start. Admission is free for all.
