ODU Wrestling Ranked No. 22 in Preseason Poll

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University wrestling team is No. 22 in the nation by Wrestling Report who announced their national rankings on Saturday.

Old Dominion collected 56 wins and a Dual Percentage Index of .747 to place them at No. 22 in the rankings.

The Mid America Conference features Missouri at No. 13, Northern Iowa at No. 21, Kent State at No. 26 and Central Michigan at No. 28.

Seven individuals on coach Steve Martin’s team are ranked in the top-20 and eight overall are ranked in the poll: 2012 NCAA qualifier Jerome Robinson is No. 16 at 125 pounds, 2013 NCAA qualifier Chris Mecate is No. 13 at 141 pounds, 2013 NCAA qualifier Alexander Richardson is No. 18 at 149, 2012 NCAA qualifier Tristan Warner is No. 19 at 157, redshirt freshman Jack Dechow is No. 20 at 184, redshirt freshman Kevin Beazley and redshirt junior Jacob Henderson are ranked No. 20 at 197 and 2013 NCAA qualifier Billy Curling is No. 31 at 174.

ODU will open its season on the road at the Hokie Duals, which also features Rider, North Carolina, and Wisconsin in Salem, Va., on Nov. 10. The Monarchs, who no longer play in the Colonial Athletic Association, will face Iowa State in their home opener on Nov. 24 and Eastern Michigan in their MAC conference opener on Dec. 6.
