Mecate Climbs to No. 4, Jeske No. 19 in National Rankings

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University wrestler Chris Mecate is ranked No. 4 by Amateur Wrestling News and Intermat in this weeks national rankings. Brandon Jeske climbed to No. 20 in both polls and is his first appearance in AWN's poll.

Old Dominion has five wrestlers ranked this week including: Mecate, Jeske, Alexander Richardson, Tristan Warner and Kevin Beazley. Mecate is ranked No. 4 by Wrestling Report and D1 College Wrestling, while Warner is No. 18 in Wrestling Report and 20 in D1 College Wrestling.

The Monarchs make their debut at No. 25 in Intermat's team poll after their impressive 10th place finish as a team at the Southern Scuffle last Thursday. ODU is also No. 24 in Wrestling Report's team poll.

Jeske finished fifth at the Southern Scuffle. He defeated No. 20-ranked Eddie Klimara (OK State) and Zach Synon by a 9-1 major decision to finish fifth. Jeske went 7-2 at the Scuffle.

Mecate placed third at the 2014 Southern Scuffle. The 2013 NCAA Qualifier went 6-1 and defeated No. 6-ranked Evan Henderson (UNC), No. 19-ranked Tyler Small (Kent State) and No. 2-ranked Chris Dardanes (Minnesota) by a 4-3 decision to take third. 

Alexander Richardson/149/Sophomore/Jersey City, N.J. #20 #21

Richardson placed seventh at the Southern Scuffle. The 149-pounder went 5-2, while defeating No. 10-ranked Dyllan Cottrell (Appalachian), No. 13-ranked Augustus Sako (Virginia) and fell just one point short to No. 4-ranked Drake Houdashelt by a 3-2 decision.

Tristan Warner/157/Redshirt Junior/Mechanicsburg, Pa. #18 #20

Warner finished 2-2 at this year's Scuffle. He defeated Aaron Scott (Appalachian) and Michael Hooker (Chattanooga) by 4-1 and 4-0 decisions.

Kevin Beazley/197/Redshirt Freshman/Howell, Mich. #30

Beazley made the round of 12 at this year's Southern Scuffle. He went 2-2 while defeating No. 5-ranked Taylor Meeks (Oregon State) by a 3-2 decision and Paul Rands in a personal fall record :29 seconds.
