NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University wrestling team (3-8, 0-2) lost 20-12 to No. 12-ranked Virginia on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Center.

ODU’s Jack Dechow (184) picked up a 3-1 decision victory over nationally ranked No. 19 Jonathan Fausey. Dechow improved to 8-3 this season. No. 4-ranked Chris Mecate (141) defeated a two-time NCAA qualifier in No. 14-ranked Joseph Spisak. Mecate improved to 19-5 this year and has won 11 of his last 13 matches.

At 133 pounds, Scott Festejo was one of two probables (Michael Hayes the other) that the ODU coaches thought could start before the match. Festejo delivered with an 11-6 decision win against UVA’s Joe Martinez. Festejo was the only Monarch that recorded more than three points in today’s dual meet.

Monarchs 149-pounder Alexander Richardson picked up a 3-0 decision win against Chris Yankowich, who was one of two Cavaliers that were coming off a loss to Duke last Friday.

Virginia led by as much as 17-3 as a team before ODU pulled off three straight wins to cut the UVA team lead to 17-12. ODU’s Tristan Warner (157) gave nationally ranked Blaise Butler all he could handle, but came up on the short end of a 5-2 decision loss.
