Metzler Earns At-Large Spot, Joins Nicholson and Hutter at NCAA Championships

Philadelphia, Pa. - Old Dominion University senior Joey Metzler earned an at-large bid at 149 pounds to join fellow seniors James Nicholson and Kyle Hutter at the 2011 NCAA Championships held in Philadelphia, Pa. March 17-19.
Nicholson, seeded fourth at 125-pounds, heads into the tournament as one of 15 undefeated wrestlers in the nation and one of two at the 125-pound weight class. He brings a 31-0 record and became the first wrestler in CAA history to win four-straight conference titles. This is the fourth time in his career at the NCAA Championships, he earned All-American honors as a freshman in 2008. He will face Cal State Bakersfield's Tyler Iwamura in the first round.
Hutter is 30-8 on the season and earned an automatic spot by finishing second at the CAA Tournament. Hutter, a 12 seed, will face Michigan's Zac Stevens in the first round. This is Hutter's third time qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
Metzler finished third at the CAA Tournament and defeated three ranked wrestlers on the year to solidify his case for the at-large berth. He will face Bucknell's Kevin LeValley in the first round.
