Simons Poised to Collect 300th Career Win

Norfolk, VA (Jan. 8, 2001) -- Old Dominion wrestling coach Gray Simons will be gunning for his 300th career win this week when his team takes on Columbia and Delaware State at Duke University on Tuesday. With two wins on Tuesday, Simons will earn his 300th career win, with 103 of those victories at the helm of the Monarchs.

Simons joined the Monarchs in 1987 after heading the programs at Lock Haven, Indiana State, and Tennessee. A graduate of Lock Haven University ('62), Simons has received almost every possible award in the sport of wrestling. He finished his wrestling career with a record of 91-2, including 84 straight wins, 4 NAIA Championships, 3 straight NCAA National Championships, and was voted the Outstanding Wrestler at two NCAA Tournaments and six of seven national meets.
