Wrestling USA Magazine Ranks Recruiting Class Ninth

NORFOLK, Va. -- More national recognition has been bestowed upon Steve Martin's recruiting class as the newest group of Monarch grapplers were ranked ninth in the latest edition of Wrestling U.S.A. Magazine. This is the third distinction for Martin's incoming class as earlier W.I.N magazine ranked Old Dominion eighth and Intermat ranked had the Monarchs at tenth.

Oklahoma State topped the list followed by Leigh, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Iowa, Penn State, Arizona State, and Iowa State. Old Dominion was listed ahead of 10th ranked Nebraska. The Monarchs have several chances of meeting their fellow ranked schools at several of the tournament's listed on the Old Dominion schedule including the Michigan State Open, Cornell Body Bar, and Penn State Open.

Among the featured freshmen noted were fourth ranked Billy Chamberlain (Shippensburg, Pa.), seventh ranked James Nicholson (Des Moines, Iowa), ninth ranked Kyle Hutter (Mokena, Ill.), 10th ranked Jesse Strawn (Holton, Kan.), and 22nd ranked Adam Koballa (Twinsburg, Ohio) along with junior college transfer and NJCAA champion Matt Collum (Naperville, Ill.).

The 2006-07 season kicks off for the Monarch on October 29th with the annual Blue & Silver Intrasquad meet. Tournament action gets underway two days later when the Monarchs compete in the Michigan State Open. Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) member George Mason will serve as the Monarchs home opener on December 8th.
