ODU Hosts Virginia Tech in First Ever Match at The Ted

NORFOLK, VA -- The Monarchs open the doors of The Ted Constant Convocation Center for its first ever wrestling match on Thursday night as they play host to Virginia Tech. The Hokies are 5-9 overall and are on a five-match slide while the Monarchs are 10-6 and are on a two-match slide. During halftime, the Monarchs will recognize the All-Time Wrestling Team featuring captains Wayne Bright and Buddy Lee. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.

It will also be streamed live on the internet via the ODU website. The lifetime series is near even, with the Monarchs holding a slight 17-13 advantage.

Inaugural Match at The Ted
The match against Virginia Tech Thursday night marks the first ever wrestling match at The Constant Center. Old Dominion will host the second match at The Ted on Sunday against American University. In the future, the wrestling team is tentatively scheduled to wrestle marquee matchups in the arena.

About Virginia Tech
Tech is coached by Kevin Dresser, former high school coach of Christiansburg High School. Both Dressler and ODU coach Steve Martin wrestled at the University of Iowa and returned to Virginia to coach powerhouse wrestling programs at the high school level. Martin, in his third year coaching at ODU, and Dresser, in his first year at Tech, are new to collegiate coaching, but are seasoned competitors against eachother.
The Hokies are led by Steve Ratley, with 22 wins and 18 pins, Ratley is ranked the 20th best 174-pounder in the Atlantic region. Also leading the Virginia Tech squad with 21 teams is Steve Borja with 21 wins.
