NORFOLK, Va. (May 17) -- Old Dominion freshman Jeff Rusak (Reading, Pa.) was named the third-best freshman wrestler at 157 pounds in the country by Amateur Wrestling News. The wrestling publication rated the top six freshman wrestlers in each weight class.

Rusak completed one of the most successful inaugural campaigns in Old Dominion wrestling history, finishing with a 34-6 record, including a perfect 18-0 record in dual meets. He earned a wildcard berth to the NCAA Championships, where he won two matches.

Brian Snyder of Nebraska earned top freshman honors after finishing fourth in the nation at 157 pounds. Snyder defeated Rusak in the Pennsylvania State Championships in 1997 in the 135 pound class.

Griff Powell of Illinois was rated as the second best freshman at 157, followed by Rusak, Navy's Todd O'Neil, Slippery Rock's Doug Cieleski and North Carolina's Pat Cadwallader.
