Wrestling Takes on Edinboro in First Round of Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. - Old Dominion University wrestling will compete in the 31st annual Virginia Duals on Friday as they take on Edinboro at 9 a.m. ODU will face either No. 2 Penn State or VMI in the second round.

The Monarchs will face Edinboro for the fourth time in school history but the first time since 2005.

Old Dominion brings 1 -4 dual match record into the tournament while Edinboro is 1-5-1.

ODU had three wrestlers place at the Southern Scuffle, led by senior James Nicholson who won the 125 pound weight class. Kyle Hutter took fourth at 133 and Joey Metzler finished sixth at 149.

Nicholson stayed unbeaten on the season, improving to 14-0 and ranks fourth in the nation. Hutter leads the team with 17 wins while Brennan Brumley is third with 13. Brumley leads the team with three pins while Chad Lowman tops the squad with three technical falls.

Edinboro is led by 184 pounder Chris Honeycutt who is 11-0 and ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in the polls.
