Highlights from Today's Match

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion won eight-straight matches to defeat George Mason 32-10 in its home opener at the Ted Constant Convocation Center Sunday night.

The Monarchs lost the first and last matches of the night, but sandwiched in between were eight-consecutive wins.

After Jaaziah Bethea beat Micah Blair 12-3 to open the match, Dan Rivera came up with a 4-3 decision at 165. Rivera scored a takedown against Aaron Keeten in the first period, but allowed him to escape. Keeten began the second with another escape before Rivera got an escape to open the third. Keeten earned a point when Rivera was called for fleeing, but Rivera got the riding time point and won 4-3.

Tristan Warner followed at 174 with a dominating 11-2 major decision, that produced four takedowns.

Joe Budi was up next and was just as good, taking down Seth Robertson twice, and earning nearfall points three times for a 16-0 technical fall.

Jacob Henderson was up next at 197 against James Webb. After a scoreless first two periods, Henderson earned an escape to open the third and got the riding time point for a 2-0 victory.

Grant Chapman took on Hunter Manspile at 285, and after each wrestler scored an escape, Chapman grabbed the only takedown of the match and riding time for a 4-1 decision.

James Nicholson received a forfeit at 125 before Kyle Hutter put together a dominant 17-2 technical together at 133. Hutter took down John Delgado five times in the win.

In the closest match of the night, Brennan Brumley and Denny Herndon both earned escapes in regulation and in the first two rounds of overtime, before Brumley earned a takedown with 27 seconds left in the second sudden victory for the 4-2 decision.

Shohei Takagi finished the match with a win for Mason, pinning Scott Festejo at the 4:22 mark.

The Monarchs are back in action next Sunday, as they travel to Central Michigan.
