Wrestling Heads to New York to Compete in Binghamton Open

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Old Dominion University wrestling heads north to New York for the Binghamton Open on Sunday, Nov. 14.

The Monarchs will be one of 20 teams at the event, with the likes of American, Binghamton, Bloomsburg and Cornell, as well as CAA rivals Drexel, Rider and Sacred Heart.

ODU got off to a solid start last week at the Hokie Open, collecting seven place-winners in the opener.

Senior James Nicholson led the charge, winning the 125-pound weight class, defeating No. 10 Jarrod Garnett of Virginia Tech in the finals.

Fellow senior Kyle Hutter also had a good run, finishing second at 133. Joey Metzler and Joe Budi finished in fourth t 149 and 184, respectively.

The Monarchs will get their first taste of dual meet action next weekend, when they travel to Northern Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 20 for a 2 p.m. match before heading to Iowa State on Sunday at 7 p.m. to face the No. 25 Cyclones.
