Steve Martin Announces Four Early Blue Chip Signings For 2005-06 Season

NORFOLK, VA -Old Dominion wrestling Head Coach Steve Martin has announced the early signing of four blue chip nationally ranked recruits for the 2005-06 season. Two of the wrestlers, Bryan Lashomb (119 lbs) and Chris Brown (152 lbs), are seniors at Great Bridge High School, while Jeff Becker (145 lbs) is a senior from Slippery Rock, PA, and Ben Fiacco (160 lbs) is from Acworth, GA.
"Our coaching staff has worked extremely hard during the early signing process to pin down a blue chip recruiting class," Coach Martin said. "All four signees are excellent student-athletes and are role models in their community. This is the prototype we are looking for in building a national powerhouse. Each signee is not only nationally ranked in folkstyle, but are also accomplished free-style wrestlers. These blue chip recruits will set the standard for future recruiting classes."
Bryan Lashomb, a senior currently wrestling at 119 pounds at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, VA, is ranked #3 in the nation in his weight class. Lashomb is also ranked #38 nationally regardless of weight class. Lashomb is a three-time state champion and this spring, he will vie for his fourth state title. He is a two-time Junior National Freestyle All-American and freestyle wrestler. Last spring, Lashomb won the Fila Cadet National Championship, thus becoming a member of the USA Junior World Team. His career high school record is 129-17.
Chris Brown, also a senior at Great Bridge High School, is ranked 4th in the nation at 152 pounds and is the nation's 68th senior overall regardless of weight class. The 2004 Virginia High School League AAA State Champion in 2004, Brown is a three-time VHSL AAA State Place Winner and will compete for his second VHSL AAA title this spring. He is a NWCA National Folkstyle Champion, a Cadet Freestyle All-American, and a FILA Cadet National Champion. Brown was also a member of the USA Junior World Team. He has a career high school record of 108-10.
Jeff Becker, a senior at Slippery Rock High School in Slippery Rock, PA, is ranked 11th in the nation at 145 pounds. Becker is a two-time Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Athletic Association State Placer winner in the toughest wrestling state in the country--Pennsylvania. He is a Cadet National Freestyle Finalist and a Cadet Greco-Roman All-American. Last year as a junior, Becker placed third in the Slippery Rock Open, wrestling against college competition. He is ranked among the top 200 wrestlers in the country. Becker's career record is 101-11.
Ben Fiacco is a senior at Harrison High School in Kennesaw, GA. Fiacco is ranked 13th in the nation at 160 pounds. He is a two-time 5A State Champion (2003, 2004), placing third in 2002. Fiacco is a three-time region champion, USAW Cadet Folksyle National Champion in 2003, a USAW Cadet Freestyle National Finalist in 2003 and was a FILA Cadet Freestyle All-American in 2004. Fiacco was named the 2004 Cobb County Athlete of the Year and was named to the 2004 Atlantic Journal Wrestling Dream Team. He is ranked among the top 150 wrestlers in the country. Fiacco has a 165-5 career record.
