Monarchs Will Compete in the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament Saturday

NORFOLK, VA -The Old Dominion wrestling team will compete in the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament Saturday, in Charlottesville, VA.  This year's tournament is hosted by the University of Virginia and will feature six schools:  Old Dominion, Virginia, George Mason, James Madison, VMI and the Apprentice School.  Last year, the Monarchs hosted the tournament, finished fourth with 84.5 points.  VMI won the tournament with 97.5 points.


Redshirt Sophomore Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/125) is ranked as high as 11th in the latest national rankings.  Staylor is ranked 11th in the NWCA/InterMat poll, 13th in the WIN Magazine poll, 14th in the Wrestling Mall poll and 16th in the Amateur Wrestling News poll.  Junior Adam Wright (Dayton, VA/184) is ranked 19th in the latest Wrestling Mall poll.  Junior Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA/141) was named CAA Wrestling of the Week this week after placing 5th at the Southern Scuffle last week.
