Wrestling Takes Care of VMI, 38-3

HAMPTON, Va. - Old Dominion University wrestling was dominant in its second match at the Virginia Duals, cruising to a 38-3 win over VMI Friday afternoon. ODU will take on Wyoming Saturday at 10 a.m.

James Nicholson and Kyle Hutter got the Monarchs out of the gates qucikly, both turning in technical falls. With his win at 133, Hutter becomes the 12 wrestler in program history to record 100 career wins. The senior now owns a career record of 100-47 and is one of two active Monarchs to have 100 hundred wins, the other is Nicholson, who has 119.

Brennan Brumley got a second period reversal at 141 and earned a riding points for a 3-1 decision over David Yost.

Senior Joey Metzler followed with a dominant 11-3 major decision while Chad Lowman was impressive in a 16-0 tech. fall over Nick Emison.

Dan Rivera continued the winning with a 7-2 decision over Ted Gottwald. Rivera grabbed a couple of early takedowns to take control of the match.

Tristan Warner followed with an early takedown and first period pin of Evan Dill.

Billy Curling earned three takedowns en route to an 8-0 major decision at 184 while Jacob Henderson delivered a 3-0 decision at 197.

VMI's only win came at 285 where No. 11 Josh Wine earned a second period escape and the riding time point to win 2-0.
