Christian Staylor Named CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week; B.J. Compton Is Rookie of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -Redshirt Sophomore Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/125) was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Wrestler of the Week, along with Boston University's Courtney Howard, and freshman B.J. Compton (Christiansburg, VA/Christiansburg/133) was named CAA Rookie of the Week, based on their performances in the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament this past weekend.
Christian Staylor was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament, winning his 125 pound weight class with a pair of pins and a major decision. The top ranked 125 in the CAA, Staylor improved to 16-6 overall.
B.J. Compton won all three of his bouts to win his 133 pound weight class, compiling a fall and a major decision. Compton, the fourth-ranked 133 in the CAA, defeated the third-ranked wrestler, David Emison of George Mason, en route to the title. Compton is now 23-9 for the season.
ODU finished 2nd at the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament, with 97.5 points, marking its highest finish since 1994. The Monarchs had seven placewinners, including four first places.
