Lopez Villa Advances in Singles Main Draw at ITA Regionals

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team completed their second day of play at the ITA Atlantic Regional’s in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday. All action is taking place on the campus of Virginia Tech.

On Friday, No. 6 seeded Carlos Lopez Villa (ODU) received a bye in the First Round. On Saturday, Lopez Villa defeated Virginia Tech’s Aaron Gomez, 7-6(12), 6-1. Lopez Villa will take on Radford’s Patrick O’Keefe tomorrow at 10 a.m.

ODU’s senior Dante Terenzio lost to No. 12 seeded Russell Bader from Penn State (7-5, 6-0).

Old Dominion’s Zvonimir Podvinski fell to No. 13 seed Danil Zelenkov of George Washington, 6-3, 7-5.

Lopez Villa and Terenzio (ODU) took down No. 13 seed Slayer/O’Keefe from Radford, 8-2. Lopez Villa and Terenzio then lost an 8-6 match to George Washington’s Formin/Zelenov.

The COMPLETE SCHEDULE for the weekend is as follows:
Saturday, Oct. 19: 9 a.m. – Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The singles round will be played in between the two rounds of doubles.

Sunday, Oct. 20: 10 a.m. – One round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles.

Monday, Oct. 21: 10 a.m. – Doubles semifinals followed by singles quarterfinals and semifinals.

Tuesday, Oct. 22: 10 a.m. – Finals of both singles and doubles.
