NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University senior David Born will miss the remainder of the season following his arthroscopic knee surgery he had four weeks ago, ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder announced.

“What an outstanding representative David Born has been for Old Dominion University. As a student he has been on the Dean’s list and will graduate with his degree in Biology. On the football field he has been an all-conference player and an NFL prospect. He has achieved at the highest level from the moment he stepped on our campus. He has been a key member of our growing program and a big reason why we were able to go to the FCS playoffs in 2011 and 2012,” Wilder said.  Without student-athletes like David Born we would not be considered the best start-up program in college football history. He will always be an Old Dominion Monarch and I am very proud of everything that he has accomplished.”

Prior to his surgery, Born had started 32-consecutive games at left guard for the Monarchs. He had started the first six games this season, helping ODU to a 4-2 record.  Born was named to the FBS All-Independent Midseason First-Team by Phil Steele.

Born started all 13 games at left guard for the 2011 Monarchs, helping ODU rank fifth nationally in points per game.  The ODU offense ranked in the top-10 in total offense and scoring offense as ODU finished second in the CAA and received an at-large berth in the FCS playoffs, the first appearance in school history.  The Monarchs defeated Norfolk State in the first round and advanced to the second round, finishing with a 10-3 record.

In 2012, Born helped ODU lead the nation in total offense, passing offense and points per game.  He earned All-CAA accolades as he and the Monarchs won the CAA Championship, earned the No. 4 seed in the FCS playoffs and finished with an 11-2 record and final ranking of No. 6 in the country.  He was also named to the CAA All-Academic Team.

Born will graduate in December with a degree in biology.
