MAISA Women's Championships Highlights Final Regular Season Weekend for Sailing

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women's sailing team will attempt to qualify for the ICSA Women's National Championships this weekend Hampton as ODU and Hampton University co-host the MAISA Women's Championships over the weekend. The Lady Monarchs are seeking their fifth consecutive bid to the national championships.
In addition, the No. 12 ODU coed sailing team, who moved up two spots this week in the national rankings will take part in the Admiral's Cup in Kings Point, N.Y. and the Thompson Trophy race in New London, Conn. to cap their regular season.

Last weekend, the coed Monarchs earned a third place finish with 158 points at the America Trophy Trophy to qualify ICSA National Semifinals on April 27-28 behind only No. 3 Georgetown, who won the event with 115 points and No. 10 Navy (145) in the 18-team event. Senior skipper and team captain Dillon Paiva coupled with junior crew Chloe Constants and freshman crew Cooper Paiva captured third place in the A-Division race with 82 points, just one point behind second place finishers Hobart and William Smith. In the B-Division race, freshman skipper Esteban Forrer and junior crew Julia Wiesner also took third place with 76 points.
For the Lady Monarchs, they took 17th place at the Emily Wick Trophy Race in New London, Conn. last weekend. Junior skipper Corina Radtke and senior crew Shannon Wilkins and junior crew Alexa Cavalieri finished 15th in the A-Division race with 167 points. In the B-Division race, junior skipper Rachel Austin and freshman crew Grace Mason finished 17th with 195 points. Yale won the event with 112 points followed by College of Charleston (130) and Tufts (134).
