Lady Monarchs Conclude Season After Poor Conditions In ICSA National Championship Semifinals

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Calm winds and poor conditions this morning ended the 2013 ICSA Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship Semifinals early as no races could be completed before the time limit  expired so the the Old Dominion University women's sailing team completes their season after finishing in 14th place.

Multiple attempts to get the semifinas back underway were made but to no avail as the mid-day time limit was reached and the competition rules dictated that the finals must begin with the top nine finishers from Tuesday's opening day action.

Cornell led the 18-team semifinal field with 73 points and advanced, followed by Dartmouth (83), Eckerd (105), Brown (108), Georgetown (112), South Florida (116), Connecticut College (122), Roger Williams (129) and Hobart & William Smith (146) to the finals which began this afternoon. 

For the Lady Monarchs yesterday, the A-Division tandem of junior skipper Corina Radtke and senior crew Shannon Wilkins finished in 13th place with 97 points while the B-Division duo of sophomore skipper Andrea Luna and junior crew Alexa Cavalieri also finishedin 13th place with 90 points. Luna and Cavalieri finished Tuesday on a high note, taking second place in the final competition of the day.

The ICSA/Gill Dinghy Coed National Championships begin on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Fla. where the fifth-ranked coed Monarchs will compete in search of a national championship. The event runs through Thursday, May 30.
