Monarch Sailing Opens 2004-05 Season With Two Home Regattas

NORFOLK, VA --The Old Dominion sailing team, ranked #4 in the women's poll and #17 in the co-ed poll, kicks off their 2004-05 season this weekend, competing in two home regattas and the Navy Laser Open.

The Monarchs will host the Riley Cup and the ODU/BYO Radial at the ODU Sailing Center Saturday and Sunday.  Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH), Maureen Castruccio (Pleasanton, CA), Cara DiSanti (Seacliff, NY), Christabelle Fernandez (Virginia Beach, VA) and Federico de la Puente Gomez (Cartagena, Spain) will sail in the ODU Radial.  Tunnicliffe is the defending champion of the Radial.  Sailing in the A division of the Riley Cup will be Tom Lewin (Williamsville, NY) and freshman Emily Bartlett (Annapolis, MD).  In B division, Wade Schon (Millington, NJ) and Vincent Fontimayor (Virginia Beach, VA) will sail for ODU.

Sailing in the Navy Laser Open for the Monarchs, in Annapolis, MD, will be Bill Berg (Longwood, FL), David Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) and Charles Higgins (Arlington, TX).  The top six finishers will qualify for the MAISA Championships October 9-10 at the U.S. Naval Academy.
