LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Old Dominion coed sailing team placed seventh at the 26th annual Rose Bowl regatta hosted by USC over the weekend at the U.S. Sailing Center.
The Monarchs tallied 170 points and trailed only Boston College, St. Mary's, Georgetown, Charleston, Coast Guard and Vermont.
The Rose Bowl regatta is the largest coed intersectional competition during the college sailing season fielding 30 teams from across the country.
Sophomore skipper Dillon Paiva and junior crew Alexa Cavalieri raced to a 10th-place finish in the A-Division with 96 points, while freshman skipper Scott Hoffmann and junior crew Emily Reich claimed eighth in the B-Division with 74 points.
After a slow start Paiva and Cavalieri came on strong, finishing in the top-10 in three of the final four races. Hoffmann and Reich posted three top-five finishes in just eight races.
