Nations Top Sailing Programs Descend On Norfolk This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. - Eight of the nations most elite sailing programs will compete this weekend in Norfolk as Old Dominion hosts the Aaron Szambecki Team Race March 26-27. The eight-team field features four of the top five ranked teams in the country and no team is ranked lower than No. 13.
"This regatta has historically been one of the toughest, most competitive college events of the year," said Old Dominion head coach Mitch Brindley. "We're known for running great events here and having great conditions. We're really excited for it. It'll be good for our young team to face some really good competition and hopefully learn a lot."
This years field for the Aaron Szambecki Team Race features the nations top ranked team, the College of Charleston, No. 3 Georgetown, No. 4 Roger Williams, No. 5 St. Mary's (Md.), No. 6 Navy, No. 7 Yale, No. 11 Stanford and No. 13 Old Dominion.
ODU's ranking is the highest it's been all season after a few impressive showings early in the spring season. Additionally, the Lady Monarch sailing team is ranked No. 8 in the latest Sailing World rankings.
Action will get underway on the Elizabeth River Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at approximately 9:30 a.m.
