NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion's sailing program will host the third-annual E. Aaron Szambecki Team Race on Saturday and Sunday at the Old Dominion Sailing Center. The event features seven nationally ranked teams, including top-ranked St. Mary's, second-ranked Southern California, fifth-ranked Georgetown, seventh-ranked Old Dominion and eighth-ranked Hobart William Smith, along with #11 Charleston and California Berkley.

The event is widely regarded as one of the most competitive team race events prior to the North American Championships which are held at the end of May. In fact, the race is a final "tune-up" for the MAISA (Mid Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association) Team Race Championships in April, which will qualify the top-two finishers for the nationals.

The team race is named in honor of Aaron Szambecki, a member of the Old Dominion class of 1996 and a former team captain and All-American sailor for the Monarchs.
