NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University head women’s basketball coach Karen Barefoot was a guest speaker at the 4th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Reception, hosted by the American Cancer Society.
This event was held at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and allowed locals and fans the opportunity to mingle with local coaches and their supporters along with keynote speaker, NBA Ref Tony Brothers.
Old Dominion’s staff was joined by the likes of other local collegiate basketball coaches: Christopher Newport, Norfolk State, Virginia Wesleyan and Hampton.
The American Cancer Society will continue to save lives by helping people to stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back against a disease that has taken so many lives.
For a century, the American Cancer Society has fought for every life threatened by every cancer in every community. The American Cancer Society contributed to a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate between the early 1990's and 2005. That means that they have helped avoid about 650,000 cancer deaths. Overall, 11 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year.
