Men's Soccer Featured on Fox TV on Wednesday

Fox Sports will televise the Conference USA men's soccer match between ODU and Charlotte men’s in Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Locally, Cox channel 11 will carry the match live at 7 p.m. 

This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1990.  ODU leads the series, 5-2-3 and won the last meeting in 1990, 2-0. The 49ers who reached the NCAA College Cup two years ago are currently 4-3-3 overall and 0-2-1 in C-USA. Giuseppe Gentile leads Charlotte in scoring with five goals, followed by Kyle Parker and Luke Waechter with two each. Will Mayhew and David Mayer each lead the team with three assists.  Goalkeeper Klay Davis has a 0.67 goals against average.

ODU enters the match at 4-3-1 overall and 1-1 in C-USA. This will be the second straight year for ODU soccer to be on national TV.  Last year the Monarchs match against George Mason was on Fox Soccer Channel.

Senior Tim Hopkinson leads ODU with six goals, one assist for 13 total points and  is currently seventh all-time at ODU with 27 career goals and sixth all-time at ODU with 70 career points.  Junior Ivan Militar is second to Hopkinson with three goals, three assists for nine total points.

ODU head coach Alan Dawson ranks third among Conference USA head coaches in career wins. He is currently 315-130-41 (186-100-31) at ODU.

The Monarchs return home this weekend to play 10th ranked UAB Saturday night at 7 p.m.
