John Richardson Inducted Into The Woodside Hall Of Fame
NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University men’s basketball assistant coach John Richardson was inducted into the Dr. Ashby Kilgore Athletic Hall of Fame at Woodside High School Wednesday night, June 4th.
“I am honored to be inducted in the Dr. Ashby Kilgore Athletic Hall of Fame,” said Richardson. “My time at Woodside High School will be one of the most memorable times of my life. I was fortunate to work with a supportive administration and tremendous faculty. The students that I mentored and coached will always be a reminder of the partnership I had with parents in the development of these student-athletes and the trust that these young adults put in me. This honor is a truly humbling experience. “
Richardson led the Woodside Boys Varsity Basketball Team for three years after serving as the junior varsity coach. During his three-year tenure as varsity coach, Richardson’s teams compiled a 70-19 record while winning two Virginia High School League State Championships (2004 & 2005), two regional championships and a district title.
Richardson’s fellow induction class included Marquez Davis and Maguell Davis. Richardson just completed his seventh season at ODU, three years as ODU’s first Director of Basketball Operations and four seasons as assistant coach.
Richardson graduated from Elizabeth City State University in 1995 with a degree in health and physical education with a minor in biology. He received a master’s degree from Old Dominion University in 2003 in sports management.
