Hassell To Play In Basketball Legend Series Aug. 3
WASHINGTON, DC—Former ODU standouts Frank Hassell (’11) and Keyon Carter ('11) will be playing for the Virginia Ball-Stars in the Basketball Alumni Legends Series on Saturday, Aug. 3, against the DC Dobermans at 7 p.m. in the George Washington University’s Charles E. Smith Center .
The-BALL (Basketball Alumni Legends League ) summer series features five teams representing college basketball alums from D.C., Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Philadelphia.
The 6-9 Hassell from Chesapeake, Va., recently played in the NBA Summer League for the Washington Wizards. He also played in Israel this past season. In 2011, Hassell played two summer league games for San Antonio and was on the team until the day before the season opened. In 2012, he played five summer league games for Atlanta, averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds. Hassell averaged 11 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for Canton in 39 games of the NBA D-League.
At ODU, Hassell helped lead the Monarchs to back-to-back CAA titles, as well as the Monarchs win over 6th seed Notre Dame, 51-50 in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament in New Orleans. He was the MVP of the 2009 College Insider.com post season tournament as well as a first team All-CAA and Tournament MVP in 2011. Hassell scored 1,250 career points which ranks him 29th all-time at ODU and 909 career rebounds which ranks him 10th all-time. He was named Collegeinsider.com Mid Major All-American and honorable mention 2011 NABC and SI.com All-American. Graduated with a degree in sociology.
Carter, a teammate of Hassell completed his career with 836 career points at ODU and 500 career rebunds. He scored a career high 19 points against Dayton, hit a career high five three-pointers in a game at William and Mary. He graduated with a degree in sports management.

The-BALL, a new professional basketball league on the East Coast, features former collegiate basketball stars from universities in Washington D.C., Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and Philadelphia. The-BALL Pro Basketball Series includes four games from July 27 – August 5, all hosted at George Washington University’s Charles E. Smith Center.
