Monarchs Land Two Standout Forwards
Junior College All-American Javonte Douglas & All-State Forward Zoran Talley join Monarchs
NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University head men’s basketball coach Jeff Jones has announced the signing of a pair of 6-7 forwards in Zoran Talley (Merrillville, IN.) and Junior College All-American Javonte Douglas (Charlotte, NC.) to national letters of intent today.
“We are extremely pleased to have Javonte and Zoran join the ODU basketball family,” said ODU head coach Jeff Jones, who guided the Monarchs to one of the nation’s best turnaround seasons. “They are both outstanding basketball players, but just as important, they are outstanding young men. Javonte is a very athletic, skilled wing player who does a lot of different things on the court that helps his team be successful. Zoran is extremely skilled at his size and has a play-making mentality. We are looking forward to working with both young men as we move forward to next season.”
Douglas averaged 17.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the College of Central Florida in Ocala where he was named a second team Junior College All American and Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year. In 2012-13, Douglas earned honorable mention All-American honors, first team All-Region and was the Conference MVP at Hill College in Hillsboro, TX. where he averaged 16.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Douglas shot .522 from the field, and his put back dunk over three players from Pasco-Hernando was an instant hit on YouTube earlier this season, receiving over one million hits. The Charlotte, NC. native averaged 17.4 points per game at Kennedy Charter High School.
Talley played this season at Midwest Prep Elite Academy where he averaged 16.3 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. A native of Merrillville, IN., Talley averaged 12.8 points for Merillville High School where he was the team captain and team MVP. Talley scored 20 points in Merrillville’s Class 4-A regional championship last year, advancing to the Indiana State Semifinals. Talley earned Times All-Area second team and Post Tribune Honorable Mention honors in 2011-12, and 2012-13. He was the Times All-Area first team selection in 2012-13, and All-State honorable mention.
