Football Monarchs Take on The Citadel Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University Monarchs host their second-straight home game when they host The Citadel on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

The Monarchs scored a school record 76 points in last week's victory over Howard, 76-19.

• The 733 yards produced by the Old Dominion offense was the fourth most in school history.

• The ODU defense forced five turnovers in last week's victory over Howard.  In the previous two games, ODU combined to force just one turnover.  Reggie Owens and D.J. Simon had interceptions while Richie Staton, Preston Smith and Larry Alston recovered fumbles.

• For the sixth time in his career, quarterback Taylor Heinicke passed for more than 400 yards, throwing for 406 in the win over Howard.  

• Redshirt freshman wide receiver caught a career-best nine passes for 124 yards and scored his first career TD in the win.  He becomes the first ODU receiver this season to surpass the 100-yard receiving mark.

• Old Dominion is now 4-1 in home openers.

• ODU is 39-12 under head coach Bobby Wilder, appearing in the FCS playoffs the only two years they were eligible for a postseason bid.

•  After catching just three passes in the first two games, redshirt freshman receiver Zach Pascal caught nine passes for 124 yards and his first career touchdown in the victory over Howard.  Pascal became the first ODU receiver to go over the 100-yard receving mark this year.

Junior quarterback Taylor Heinicke put on yet another display last Saturday, tossing four TD passes, running for another and throwing for 406 yards.  The 406 yards is the sixth highest total in Heinicke's career and the 14th time the junior has gone over 300 yards passing.  Heinicke started the game completing his first eight passes for 188 yards.

• Heinicke's first quarter 76-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Vaughan was the third longest pass play in school history.

Senior running back Colby Goodwyn had his best day of the young season, rushing for 79 yards on just nine carries and a touchdown, all which came in the first half.

• Fellonte Misher and John Darr led the Monarchs defensively with nine tackles apiece.  Misher tied his career-high while Darr was one off his career best.

ODU plays an FBS team for the first time in 2013, playing five on the road.  The Monarchs played at East Carolina last weekend and follow with trips to Maryland (Sept. 7), Pittsburgh (Oct. 19), Idaho (Nov. 9) and North Carolina (Nov. 23)

Old Dominion's home field of Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium, which holds 20,118, has sold out all 30 of its games to date, including all home games in 2012. ODU fans purchased more than 14,000 season tickets for the 2013 season. The Monarchs are 23-7 all-time and went 6-2 last season in front of the home crowd.  

Senior kicker Jarod Brown has been perfect on all of his kicks so far this season.  Brown  is 16-for-16 on extra points and 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts.  He is the school's all-time leading scorer with 305 points.

The Monarchs host their third out of four-straight home games on Saturday, Sept. 28 against Albany.
