About the Eagles
Eastern Michigan is led by first-year head coach, Chris Creighton. Creighton has been a collegiate head coach for 17 years, most recently serving a six-year term at Drake. He posts a career record of 139-46 at Drake, Wabash College (Ind.) and Ottawa University (Kan.).
EMU returns its top two runners from a year ago in seniors Bronson Hill and Ryan Brumfield. Hill led the Eagles with 1,134 rushing yards on 196 carries and five touchdowns, while Brumfield rushed 98 times for 546 yards and five TD’s.
Senior quarterback Tyler Benz returns after completing 129-of-217 passes for 1,497 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
The Eagles also return its top two leading receivers in tight end Tyreese Russell, and wide receiver Dustin Creel. Russell led the team with 594 receiving yards on 44 catches while Creel had 46 receptions for 593 yards.
Ike Spearman led the Eagles in tackling in 2013 and he returns for the 2014 season. Spearman had 82 tackles and two INT’s last year.
In the NFL
Eastern Michigan has had 23 all-time NFL Draft choices, and has several former players currently in the NFL, including Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback and former Detroit Lions starter, Charlie Batch, Green Bay Packers starting guard, T.J. Lang, and Tennessee Titans wide receiver, Kevin Walter.
Like all opponents except for Hampton, this will be the first meeting between the two schools. ODU will make a return trip to Eastern Michigan in 2015.
