Quick Reaction from ODU vs. Hampton: Zach Pascal
ODUSports.com talked to Zach Pascal after Saturday's win to get his take on ODU's 41-28 win over Hampton.
Zach Pascal was fourth on the Old Dominion team last year with 41 catches for 534 yards. Pascal was the second leading returning receiver and he came up big in Saturday’s 41-28 win over Hampton with eight catches for 99-yards and two touchdowns.
Pascal had a simple philosophy heading into the 2014 opener.
“I was just trying to do my job. I knew this year I have to step up. I told myself to just do my job and the ball will find you,” Pascal said.
Pascal put ODU on top 14-7 with a five-yard touchdown reception from Taylor Heinicke.
“I ran a corner route and they were in man coverage. I knew Taylor was going to threw it to me and I just sprinter to the corner and caught it for a touchdown,” Pascal said.
Pascal’s second TD of the day came on a 19-yard pass from Heinicke that showed the two players have good communication between each other.
“Taylor gave me a signal to run a certain route, it was man coverage, I saw the safety come down and I took off down field and Taylor found me for the touchdown.”
ODU played several new players at wide receiver on Saturday, including Nick England (4 rec., 39 yards) and freshmen Vincent Lowe and Jonathan Duhart. Just a sophomore, Pascal is relishing the role as a veteran of the position group.
“It feels good that I have players that look up to me. It helps me because I know I can’t make a mistake,” Pascal said. “I try to help the younger guys and it helps me grow up more.”
