Meet Your Monarchs: Kanyia Anderson Q&A
By ODU Athletics
ODUSports.com will do several stories throughout spring practice on the Monarchs. Today's feature is on sophomore linebacker, Kanyia Anderson. Anderson played in all five games in 2013 recording five tackles and one tackle for loss. He switched from defensive end to linebacker this spring.
How was your overall performance in today’s spring practice? I feel like I did pretty well, it’s my first season playing as a linebacker. I moved from defensive end this season, so it’s looking good for me.
Talk about the change from defensive end to linebacker: The main difference is that now I’m standing up. As a defensive end, your hands stay down. That’s the main difference.
What challenges did this change create for you? It’s a little bit easier now because playing as a linebacker, I am more mobile. I get to stand up and look up at the open field. I am not right next to a lineman, which gives me more time to react and play football.
Which position do you like playing better? I actually like playing linebacker better.
Do you have a particular skill that you plan to work on for the remainder of spring practices? Overall just to get better as a football player.
What challenges will you be facing this upcoming season in Conference USA? We are going up against better competition and we are making the transition from FCS to FBS so the competition will be a lot harder.
You appeared in 12 games last season, how do you plan to use that experience this year in C-USA? The good thing about having experience is you get to have the opportunity to know what you’re going up against on the college level.
You’re from the Hampton Roads area, why ODU? It’s good to be close to home, and still have the opportunity to play good football.
Talk about the excitement of playing at the S.B. Ballard Stadium: It’s a pretty good environment; it’s sold out every game so that makes the environment lovely.
Have you played any other sport other than football? Yes, in high school, I played basketball.
Favorite Restaurant: Smokey Bones.
Have you decided on a major? Yes, business management.
Favorite NFL team: Minnesota Vikings.
