NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer scored two second half goals, including one 17 seconds into the half, to take a 2-1 victory over Hofstra Friday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
With just under 25 minutes remaining in the game, Jessie Klamut pulled the ball away from the middle of the field and fired a shot from the left side 20 yards away that went off the right post and into the goal to put ODU on top for the eventual game-winning goal.
The Pride got on the board in the 12th minute as Sam Scolarici sent a pass to Leah Galton who fired a shot to the far post to put Hofstra on top 1-0.
Hofstra outshot ODU (4-12, 2-6) 10-2 in the first half with Laura Bush coming up with seven saves for ODU in the half.
The Lady Monarchs stunned the Pride to start the second half, just 17 seconds in Taylor Mertz broke free and fired a shot that goalkeeper Emily Morphitis came out to stop but the rebound went right to Ashlee Coutu who fired a shot in the empty net to knot the score at one.
In the 76th minute Kelly Evans sent a cross from the right side to the top of the box that was kicked around before Klamut came out with the ball on the left side for her game-winner that just kicked inside the post.
Hofstra outshot the Lady Monarchs 14-9, but the Pride were unable to get off a shot the final 36 minutes of the contest.
Brianna Alvarado played the second half in goal for ODU, picking up one save to earn the win while Morphitis made seven saves in the loss for Hofstra.
