Old Dominion Defeats UNC Greensboro In Double OT

GREENSBORO, NC - Elizabeth Brewster (Clifton,VA) scored the winning goal just over a minute into double overtime to lift the Lady Monarchs to a 2-1 victory over UNC Greensboro. Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) also scored giving her five goals this season. ODU is now 3-1 overall, its best start since 1998.
After a scoreless first half, Laura Beeman connected on an unassisted goal with 24 minutes remaining in the second half putting the Lady Monarchs ahead 1-0. UNC tied the game at 83:32 when Shannon Donovan scored an unassisted goal from 40 yards out.
The score remained 1-1 until just over a minute into the second overtime period Elizabeth Brewster scored on a double assisted pass from Janna Pearson (Haymarket, VA) and Katie Watson (Woodbridge, VA) to give Old Dominion the win.
Freshman goalkeeper Colby Owen (Virginia Beach, VA) logged in all 101:49 minutes of the game and had 3 saves on the night. The Lady Monarchs take their game on the road again September 10, as they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia, to take on Liberty University. Old Dominion returns home Friday, September 16, as they kick off CAA conference play with a game against William and Mary at 7:00p.m.
