Vaughan's Goal Snaps Lady Monarchs Four Game Losing Streak

NORFOLK, VA - Heather Vaughan's (Virginia Beach, VA) goal late in the second half lifted Old Dominion to a 1-0 victory over George Mason ending a 4 game CAA losing streak. ODU is now 11-6-0 overall, 5-5 in the CAA, while GMU drops to 8-10-0, 4-6-0 in the conference.

The Lady Monarchs recorded 20 shots to the Patriots 10 with many scoring opportunities ricocheting off the GMU goal posts. Vaughan's goal came in the 75th minute off a corner kick, with Katie Watson (Woodbridge, VA) registering the assist. Watson made a key play when she cleared a would be patriot goal from the ODU box late in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Colby Owen (Virginia Beach, VA) made four saves on the night, giving her 51 saves this season with a 1.09 goals against average.

The Lady Monarchs take on Towson in their final regular season game this Saturday October 29th against Towson at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium at 1:00pm. A ceremony honoring the Lady Monarch seniors will take placa prior to the start of the match. The seniors on the team include Melissa Futrell, Kim Snyder, Danielle Heusser, Heather Vaughan, Heather Jones, and Laura Beeman.
