VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Nov. 5) - The #7-seeded University of Richmond Spiders defeated the #6-seeded Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs 3-0, to advance to the finals of the 1999 CAA Women's Soccer Championship at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The Spiders erupted for three second half goals to set up a showdown against William & Mary in a rematch of the 1998 final.

Senior forward Maya Clark (Pasadena, Cal./Westridge) got the Spiders on the board at 59:33 when she took a through ball from CAA Defensive Player of the Year Jaclyn Raveia (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) and beat ODU sophomore keeper Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, Md./Upper Dublin ).

All-CAA forward Brooke Sands (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Episcopal) helped the Spiders pad their advantage to 2-0 when she headed in a pass off a corner kick from freshman Jenna Merriam (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) and beat Dedmond at the near post from seven yards out. UR sophomore forward Laura Gincel (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor) closed out the Spider scoring with her fourth goal of the season in the 83rd minute.

A tournament scoring machine, Clark continued to find the back of the net at the Sportsplex with her fifth goal in five CAA Tournament matches dating back to last season. The Spiders hope to avenge a 1-0 setback to W&M in last year's final.

Sophomore keeper Kristen Samuhel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) notched three saves in recording her eighth shutout of the year as UR notched its 10th shutout win of the season.

Richmond (13-8-1) will face three-time defending CAA champion William & Mary (17-3-0) at 1:30pm on Sunday with the winner receiving a NCAA Tournament bid. ODU finishes the season with at 10-9-0.
