Lady Monarchs Improve To 4-1 After 2-0 Shutout Over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, VA - Sophomore forward Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland) scored two goals to lift the Lady Monarchs to a 2-0 shutout victory over Liberty Saturday night. Old Dominion's record improves to 4-1, their best start since 1998.
The first goal came at the 52nd minute of play as Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) retrieved a deflected shot and passed the ball to Lisa McKenzie where she put it in the net from 15 yards out, up the center. Nearly 20 minutes later, at 70:25, Lisa McKenzie connected again for her second goal of the night off a cross pass from Shavon Knight (Waldorf, MD).
Freshman goalkeepers Lauren Tupman (Virginia Beach, VA) and Colby Owen (Virginia Beach, VA) pick up their first shutout of the year each recording 45 minutes of playing time and one save a piece for the game. Old Dominion held a 20-5 shot advantage over Liberty, along with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lady Monarchs return home September 16, when they begin CAA conference play as they host William and Mary at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.
