McGovern, Gruzalski Lead Lady Monarchs to 6-0 Victory

Norfolk, Va. (August 25) -- Sophomore forward Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) completed a hat trick in the first half and junior midfielder Anna Gruzalski (Oak Ridge, TN) added two second half goals to lead the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs to a 6-0 exhibition victory over Longwood. McGovern also added a goal in the second half to tally four for the game.

McGovern added three goals in the first half, including two in the first 12 minutes, one coming off the assist by Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA) and the other unassisted. She later added her third goal on a 15 yard blast from a Kim Maurer (Marlton, NJ) assist.

Gruzalski got the scoring started in the second half, landing her first goal in the 49th minute, with the assist by Henley. McGovern then added her fourth tally in the 56th minute before Gruzalski capped the game with an unassisted goal at the 74 minute mark.

The Lady Monarchs out shot Longwood 22-7. Goalkeeper Amy Kennedy made nine saves for the Lancers.
