Ruth Keegan, a long time fixture on the Old Dominion sideline, begins her tenth season with the Lady Monarchs. Keegan joined the women's soccer staff on Jan. 1, 1996, as an assistant to her former coach, Joe Pereira. Keegan played for Pereira during her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, playing on two squads that were NCAA quarter-finalists. During her senior season in 1995, she was the starting sweeper on the Methodist squad that advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championship game, and was named to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Final Four All-Tournament team.
Keegan was a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region selection, a four-time All-Dixie Conference honoree, and was named Dixie Conference Player of the Year and NSCAA All-American in 1995. She also played in the NCAA Division II & III/ NAIA Umbro Select College All-Star game in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, she played on the Republic of Ireland National Team from 1987 to 1992. Keegan is a 1995 graduate of Methodist College, with a B.S. in physical education with a concentration in athletic training.
Keegan and husband Kenny Edwards currently reside in Virginia Beach, and they have a daughter, Molly born last January.
