Assistant Coach

Daniel Alvarez begins his second year on the Monarch staff this season as an assistant coach. Alvarez currently holds a B license from the United States Soccer Federation and is coaching the Virginia Rush Soccer Club along with the Athletic Club Norfolk soccer team.

Prior to coming to Old Dominion, Alvarez was an assistant coach at Furman University. In 2002, he helped lead them to the second round of the NCAA tournament. He has extensive professional soccer experience, spending time with the Charleston Battery, Cincinnati River Hawks, and the Virginia Beach Mariners of the USL First Division as a player. He is Furman's all-time leader in assists (41), led them to an NCAA quarterfinal appearance, won the Furman University Academic Achievement Award, and was also named as a Division I first team All-American.

Alvarez graduated from Furman in 2000 with a degree in Health and Exercise Science. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sport Management at ODU, and will finish in the spring of 2006. Alvarez has been married for four years to his wife, Laura.
