MIAMI, FLA—ODU senior forward Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) scored a goal with a little more than eight minutes left in the match to give the Monarchs (7-3-1/4-1) a 1-0 Conference USA victory over Florida International Saturday night. The Monarchs have now won three straight and four of their last five games, and are 3-0-1 on the road.

"This team finds a way to win," said ODU head coach Alan Dawson. "After the red card, we had to play a man down the last 24 minutes, but our guys kept battling tonight. We showed a lot of resilience, especially on the road."

After 82 plus-minutes of play, senior Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana) sent a cross to the near post and Hopkinson headed it in for what turned out to be the give winner for ODU. Hopkinson now has nine goals on the season to go along with two assists and 20 total points, as well as five game-winning goals (three straight). With the assist, Asante now has five total points.

FIU outshot ODU, 16-10 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal, but senior goalkeeper Sean Stowe (Midlothian, VA.) made seven saves, tying a career high. Stowe lowers his goals against average to 1.25.

ODU hosts Marshall Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
