NORFOLK, VA-- Steffen Rabben (Fagernes,Valdres, Norway)scored two goals and freshman Shane Howard (Co. Carlow, Ireland) assisted on two goals to help lead the Monarchs (4-1) to a 4-0 victory over Temple (1-2-1) Sunday for the 34th Annual Stihl Soccer Classic. In the earlier contest, Niagara (1-2-1) knocked off William And Mary (2-2), 1-0 to take second place.

Steffen Rabben put the Monarchs on the board first 16 minutes into the match on an assist from Shane Howard and senior Nane Joseph (Cameroon). With 15 minutes left in the half, senior Bobby Foglesong (Fredericksburg, VA.) found the back of the net with an assist from Adrian LeRoy (Ontario, Canada).

In the second half, Ambane Emmanuel (Cameroon) scored on a Shane Howard pass, then Steffen Rabben pumped In his second goal of the day on an assist from freshman Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.).

Temple threatened early with four shots on goal in the first 11 minutes of the match, including successive shots by Max Kinderwater, Billy Kappock and Tyler Witmer, but ODU's defense led by keeper Evan Newton kept the Owl's off the scoreboard.

ODU placed four on the Stihl All-Tournament team. They are Tournament MVP, midfielder Bobby Foglesong, Evan Newton, Nane Joseph and Shane Howard. William and Mary's Andrew Hoxie and Mike Dinuzzo were selected, while John Fiutowski, Rene DeZorzi and Levi Tesch of Niagara, and JT Noone and Max Kinderwater from Temple were selected.

ODU outshot Temple, 20-10 and 9-6 in shots on goal. Evan Newton came up with five saves on the day. The Monarchs return to action on Friday when they host Penn State at 8 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex following the Lady Monarchs-Radford women's soccer match which starts at 6 p.m.

In the earlier match, Levi Tesch's goal with 16:34 left in the match gave Niagara a 1-0 win over William and Mary. John Fiutowski had seven saves for the Purple Eagles in goal.
