NORFOLK, VA.-The Old Dominion University men's soccer squad (14-2/ 6-2 in CAA) rank #6 in Soccer America, #7 in College Soccer News, #8 Soccer Times, #14 NSCAA this week, but will be without two of its top defenders when they meet William and Mary (9-5-3/4-3-1 in CAA) Saturday night in Williamsburg, VA.
Both junior defenders Ian Kaila (Fredericksburg, VA.) and Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA.) injured over the weekend will be lost for the remainder of the season with ACL knee injuries. Kaila (left knee) went down in the 3-2 Loss at JMU, while McEachron (right knee), National Player of the week and twice CAA Player of the Week was injured in the 1-0 loss at George Mason. Both have been major cogs in the Monarchs tough defense which has allowed only seven goals this year and started the season with nine straight shutouts.
McEachron is featured in this week's (Nov. 10) edition of SOCCER AMERICA magazine on page 39.
ODU and William and Mary have played eachother since 1970. The Tribe leads the series 18-13-7. William and Mary won last year's game, 2-0. Since joining the CAA in 1991, ODU is 5-9-3 against the Tribe.
In the latest NCAA national rankings, the Monarchs are eighth in scoring at 2.38, Third in goals against average at 0.44 and shutout percentage. Goalkeeper Sam Cameron is fifth nationally in goals against average (0.44).
The CAA semi-finals and finals will be held at Virginia Commonwealth, Nov. 14 and 16. The quarterfinal round will be held at the #3 and #4 seeds.
