Aug. 22, 2009
The Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs host the University of Virginia Monday night at the ODU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. in an exhibition match.
The Monarchs return four All-CAA performers from last year. Leading the list of returnees for ODU are junior forward Steffen Rabben (7g, 2a), who was the 2008 CAA Rookie of the Year, All-CAA midfielder Nane Joseph (2g, 2a-Cameroon), along with CAA All-Rookie selection, sophomore defender, Tommy Webb (New Zealand). ODU also will benefit from the return of junior goalkeeper Evan Newton, (Virginia Beach, Va.) who earned All-CAA and All-Region accolades in 2007 after posting a 0.63 GAA with 11 shutouts before missing last season due to an injury.
Virginia will be led by sophomore midfielder Tony Tchani (Norfolk, VA.), the 2008 ACC Rookie of the Year. The pre-season All-American selection tallied nine goals, three assists for 21 points last year for UVA.
Virginia lost its exhibition opener to defending CAA champion George Mason, 1-0 Friday night.
Tickets for the match are $5.00 for adults, $4 for youth, senior citizens, military, and Faculty staff. For more information, please call the ODU Athletic Ticket Office at 683-5484.
